Yes, you read it right. A rock. Not a star, but a rock. I wished upon a rock, or actually a pile of stones. This past fall I went on a cruise with my hubby, and friends. One of the day trips we took was an excursion to Aruba. My girlfriend Donna and I did this alone. We went to the aloe factory, such a cool place, and also the butterfly farm. Another cool place. After that, the bus took us on a tour of both the commercial side and the wild side of Aruba. The wild side is basically lots of bare land, wild burros, the old stone fort and the natural bridge which has recently collapsed. I love the wild side as you can stand on the rocky shore and take pictures from all angles of water, water and more water. The picture on the top is a view of the water and rocky shoreline on the wild side of Aruba. The picture in the middle is from the Butterfly Farm. Check out those butterflies. Their wing pattern is to scare away predators. And the photo just below is the collapsed natural bridge and if you zoom in, you will see a small pile of stones piled atop one another.
Now there is a tradition in Aruba that you take a stone, place it atop another stone and make a wish. You can see little piles of these wishing stones all across the shoreline, and also along the roadway standing like little sentinels of past wishes made. Of course I had to partake in doing this. So I found two small stones, and placed them atop a bigger stone and made my wish. What did I wish for you ask? Hold your wild burros; I’m getting to that (G).
I didn’t think anything of it until a few days ago when I realized my wish had come true since we left Aruba. Truthfully it totally escaped my notice (not a hard thing to do if you know me). My wish really did come true. You see, as I was making my little stone pile I wished to be a multi published author with a big book contract in the next year. About a week and a half ago, I pitched an idea to my awesome editor Jay at eXtasy Books and she responded incredibly favorable to the idea. I signed a contract for a 12 novella series, entitled The Zodiac Club. Each heroine’s birthday will fall under that month's sign and the heroine’s strengths and weaknesses will play off her astrological definition. The first release is August 2009 and will continue every other month through mid 2011.
I had totally forgotten about this wish. But it really did come true! Now I wonder how many other visitors to Aruba made a wish and did they remember that they had done so when it came true? I certainly hope so and if I ever get the chance to go back, I’ll make another wish. I’ve attached some photos of the island and my wishing pile. Enjoy till next time!
