Collaborations

I’ve read about authors who collaborate. As a matter of fact I read a great story, Black Point, by AJ Llewellyn and DJ Manly not to long ago and it appeared seamless. I wondered how on earth could two people get together and write something as if they are one person! It boggled my mind. I wanted to give it a try, but had no idea how to go about it. Then I got to talking with my two critique partners, Cindy Jacks and Kensana Darnell, and we decided to give it a go. Now it won’t be anything like Black Point, it will be more like an anthology. Our story is about three friends and we will each take a friend and do a story about them. There will be a time line so the first story will feed right into the second. I’m so excited about this project. I made up a character sheet last night and we are trying our hand at first person. I might have to hit AJ up for some advice. He does it so well. This will be my first try with first person. I like to challenge myself and this will do it!

We’ve been brainstorming for a while now and finally got our characters in line. Well, as in line as we can. You know how characters can be! My character, Becca, is already talking to me and pushing her way to the front of the line. I tried to tell her that I need to finish Molly’s story (Unseen Path) first, but she isn’t having it. I guess that is what happens when your character is a high power attorney.

I also am in talks with another author about collaboration. This one will be more in line with that way AJ and DJ did Black Point. I’m VERY excited about it and hope everything works out. I love the stuff she writes and I have high hopes. It will be a while before we really start talking about it because she has a few projects to finish. Of course my brain is going crazy trying to think of things we could write about. I need to remind myself to slow down, but that didn't stop me from making up a character sheet. lol

I hope I’m easy to work with and these are both good experiences for all involved. I’m happy that I have all these opportunities opening up to me!

On a completely different note, December 9th is fast approaching and I’m starting to get nervous again. What is December 9th you might ask? Well that is the day my first story from Freya’s Bower goes on sale! My anthology, One Touch, One Glance is full of sweet romances! It has already received some great reviews and I know I’ve blogged about them! I’ll tell you more about my story next Tuesday, my release date! SQUEE!!!

collaborations can and do work. i read a great series that lynn was a part of and that was four books long, each of the four authors taking a book and stringing the whole story line together. lynn's book is: Blue Moon Magic 4: Night of the Blue Moon available from Loose Id

Hi Sweetie,
I feel blessed to have connected with DJ Manly creatively. And thank you fo so many compliments. Black Point was a departure for me because it's written in the third person but I really enoyed it...and I really enjoy the collaboration but it's my first successful attempt. The rest were not so great.
Good luck and congrats, Jambrea!!

Actually both Andrew and I have been writing as a team for five years. It does work as long as you listen to each other. We feed off of each other which is better yet. If you want to write with co-authors I highly recommend it. You'd be surprised what your minds can create as a whole.

Hugs,
AP

Thanks, C.R., about the plug for Blue Moon Magic.

Yes, that's a very special collaboration with some friends that I met through EPIC and because I was an editor for a small press years ago. They had sent it to me for review and suddenly I was playing the 'what if' game. My idea became the 4th story and ended up an EPPIE finalist to boot! It was fun and exciting to do.

Jambrea, collaborations was very, very fun! I hope to have more here in the near future as I love to do them. The brainstorming sessions are really informative and you can learn a lot during them. Then the actual writing is a hoot because you have to remember all the 'rules' all the authors established.

Overall, the experience is wonderful and exciting.

Lynn
